Hyundai Motor Group overtakes Toyota in Canada


Hyundai Motor Group overtook Toyota for the first time in eight years in the Canadian auto market earlier this year.

According to Automotive News Canada, a media outlet specializing in automobiles, Hyundai Motor (including Genesis) and Kia sold a total of 24,833 vehicles in Canada between January and February this year. There are 15,932 Hyundai cars and 8,901 Kia cars. The figure is up 15.3 percent from January to February last year. By type of vehicle, there are 3,028 Avante, 2,894 Kona, 2,792 Tucson, 1,893 K3, 1,447 Sorento and 1,433 Souls.

In particular, Hyundai Motor Group surpassed Toyota in the Canadian market for the first time in eight years since 2014. Toyota Group sold a total of 23,025 units between January and February this year, including 24,431 Toyota and 2,594 Lexus units, down 9.8 percent from January and February last year. As a result, Hyundai Motor Group moved up to third place in Canada, breaking down the traditional three-tier system of Ford, Toyota, and GM.
