The Nihon Keizai Shimbun compared the net profit of 22,000 listed companies in the world between 2019 and 2021 (based on the fiscal year) on the 28th, and the No. 1 company out of 17 industries was reversed. This is the biggest change since the 2008 global financial crisis when the No. 1 company in 12 industries was changed. Information and communication, automobiles, logistics, retail, chemicals, machinery, medicine, household goods, services, construction and real estate, and general trading companies have changed their net profit.

Analysts say that each company’s net profit has changed significantly depending on whether it has responded timely to rapidly changing consumption patterns since COVID-19. The newspaper also reported that the ranking fluctuated depending on whether the company had properly overcome supply-side restrictions such as a shortage of semiconductors and other parts and rising raw material prices.

In the information and communication industry, Google posted a net profit of 76 billion dollars in 2021, beating Microsoft of 61.2 billion dollars. Two years ago, Microsoft ranked first and Google ranked second. Google nearly doubled its net profit in two years based on the Internet advertising market, which has a 30% global market share.
